CARDAMOM TOAST 
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. Crisco
1 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
2 eggs
2 tsp. ground cardamom
1 c. sour cream (cultured)
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. almond extract
4 1/2 to 5 c. flour

Mix as given; knead in last cup of flour. Divide batter into 3 parts and form into loaves. Roll each loaf in granulated sugar. Flatten each loaf so they are about 3 x 12 inches. Bake at 350 degrees for about 35 minutes. Cool for about 15 minutes; slice with a sharp knife and place on cookie sheets to dry like toast. Bake first 15 minutes with oven on, turn and put back in oven with oven off for several hours, until dry.
