BAKED CANDIED YAMS 
4 to 6 sweet potatoes
1/4 c. butter
1/4 c. water
1/2 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
1 c. brown sugar, packed

Boil water, and salt. Wash and cut off ends of potatoes. Do not peel. Cook until soft but not mushy. Peel, slice into 1/2 slices. Pour syrup over potatoes. Bake at 350 degrees 30 minutes basting occasionally.
