PEANUT BUTTER PIE 
2/3 c. sugar
6 tbsp. flour
3 egg yolks
2 c. milk
3/4 c. peanut butter
1 tsp. vanilla

MERINGUE:

3 egg whites
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
6 tbsp. sugar

MERINGUE: Beat egg whites, vanilla and cream of tartar at medium speed of electric mixer until soft peaks form. Add sugar 1 tablespoon at a time, beating at high speed until stiff glossy peaks form. Spread over pie, seal to edge.

In saucepan mix sugar and flour. Stir in milk gradually. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until it begins to thicken. Remove from heat. Beat egg yolks in cup and add small amount of hot filling mixture. Return egg mixture to saucepan. Cook until it just begins to boil. It will be thick. Remove and add peanut butter and vanilla. Stir and pour in baked pie shell. Top with meringue. Bake at 350 degrees 12 minutes or until golden.
