GRANDMOTHER'S DOUGHNUTS 
2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/8 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. shortening
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. sour milk

Sift flour, baking soda, nutmeg and salt. Cream shortening; add sugar gradually. Continue creaming. Add egg and beat well. Add vanilla; add sour milk alternately with dry ingredients. Stir only until well blended.

Roll small quantities of dough at a time. Roll 1/2-inch thick. Cut with doughnut cutter and let stand 10 minutes. Fry in hot fat. Drain on paper towel. Glaze while still warm.

GLAZE:

4 c. sifted powdered sugar
1/4 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
