1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 c. applesauce
1 3/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. salt
Raisins (optional)

Mix well and bake at 350 degrees in well greased floured loaf pan or 8x8 square pan. No frosting needed.
