APPLE COBBLER
1/2 c. butter
1 c. self-rising soft wheat flour
1 1/2 c. milk
1 c. sugar
2 c. applesauce, preferably homemade
1 or 2 lg. cooking apples, peeled, cored & sliced

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Place the butter in a 9"x13" pan. Place the pan in the oven to melt the butter. To make the batter, stir together the flour, milk and sugar in a medium size bowl. Remove the pan of melted butter form the oven and pour the batter into the pan. Spoon the applesauce evenly over the batter and cover with apple slices.

Bake until the batter has risen up around the fruit and is browned, crispy and buttery around the edges, 30 to 35 minutes. The cobbler may be served plain, with whipped cream or ice cream, especially vanilla or rum raisin ice cream.
