GERMAN COOKIES 
1 c. shortening
1/2 c. butter
2 c. sugar
2 1/2 c. flour
2 tsp. powdered ammonium carbonate (this can be bought at any drug store)
1 c. shredded coconut

Cream shortening and butter, add ammonium carbonate and sugar, creaming well. Add flour a little at a time and then coconut. Shape into balls. Bake 20 to 25 minutes at 325 degrees. Makes about 9 dozen. Roll in powdered sugar while warm. Store in container with tight lid.
