GERMAN COOKIES 
1 c. sugar
1 c. + 3 tbsp. shortening
1 c. walnuts
1 tsp. vanilla
3 1/4 c. flour

Knead dough well on lightly floured surface. Roll to 1/8 to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut with simple cutter. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes or until light brown (check at 15 minutes).

Take one, spread with raspberry jam. Top with another cookie. Dip the outside of each sandwich in a bowl of sugar.
