GRANDMA'S DATE NUT BREAD 
2 3/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
2 c. chopped dates
1 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. Crisco
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. boiling water
1 egg
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. chopped nuts

Boil water and pour over chopped dates, sugar and Crisco; set aside. Sift flour, baking soda, cream of tartar and salt. Stir into date mixture. Add egg, vanilla and nuts. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 60 minutes in a greased and floured pan.
