MASHED POTATOES - GRANDMA STYLE
russet potatoes - 1 per person (tastes best if stored in fridge for a week or so)
whole or 2% milk
Land O' Lakes butter (I use salted)
salt and black pepper, to taste

Thoroughly wash your refrigerator stored Russet potatoes. You may peel if desired, I leave them on. Cube potatoes into large cubes and in a saucepan fill with cold water just covering the cubed potatoes. Bring potatoes to a boil and cook until tender (break easily with a fork).

Drain water from potatoes and add a splash of milk. Using a hand mixer, blend the potatoes, adding milk as necessary for the consistency you want.

Note: Remember, you can always add milk, but you can't take it away as easily.

Add in a heaping tablespoonful of butter and blend into the potatoes. Add salt and pepper to your preferred taste and blend.

Add a tablespoon or more of the salted butter and let it melt onto the potatoes.

Gently mix melted butter into the potatoes and serve hot.
