GINGER BREAD 
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. sugar
1 c. dark molasses
1 egg
1/2 tsp. cloves (ground)
1 tsp. ginger (ground)
1 tsp. cinnamon
2 1/2 c. flour
1 c. hot water
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Cream shortening and sugar. Add egg beat well. Sift together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and salt. Combine molasses and water. Add alternately with flour mixture mixing well until creamy.

Pour into greased creamy square pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 to 60 minutes. Cool 5 minutes remove from pan. Serve with whipped cream.
