GINGERBREAD WITH LEMON SAUCE 
1/2 c. boiling water
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
1/2 c. molasses
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger

Sift together dry ingredients. Stir the shortening and sugar; beat in the egg. Add boiling water and molasses; stir in flour. Bake 30 to 40 minutes at 350 degrees. Serve with lemon sauce.

LEMON SAUCE:

1/3 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. corn syrup
1 c. evaporated milk
1/4 c. lemon juice
1 tsp. grated lemon rind
1/4 tsp. salt

Cook syrup, sugar and butter over low heat for 3 to 4 minutes. Add remaining ingredients; stir together. Serve hot.
