RUTABAGA AU GRATIN | |
6 tbsp. melted butter, divided 1/4 c. all purpose flour 2 c. milk 1 c. (1/4 lb.) shredded cheddar cheese 1 tsp. salt 1/8 tsp. pepper 4 c. diced cooked rutabagas 1/2 c. bread crumbs Combine 1/4 cup butter and flour in a heavy saucepan over low heat. Cook 1 minute, stirring constantly. Gradually stir constantly. Gradually stir in milk; cook over medium heat stirring constantly, until smooth and thickened. Add cheese and seasonings, stirring until the cheese is melted. Place rutabaga in lightly greased 1 1/2 quart casserole; top with sauce. Combine bread crumbs with remaining 2 tablespoons butter; sprinkle over casserole. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes. |
