SPICY APPLE PIE CAKE 
1/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
2 tbsp. water
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. flour
1/2 c. chopped walnuts
2 1/2 c. diced apples
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream shortening and sugar; add egg, water and salt. Mix thoroughly. Sift dry ingredients and add; stir in vanilla. Fold in walnuts and apples. Bake in 9" pie pan at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Yield: 5 servings.

SAUCE:

1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. cream or half and half
1 tsp. vanilla

Combine all ingredients; boil gently for 10 minutes. Serve hot sauce over cake.
