1 1/4 lbs. lean beef, cut in cubes 3 big onions 1 c. celery 2 tbsp. dark molasses 3 tbsp. soy sauce 1 can bean sprouts 1 can mushrooms 1 tbsp. cornstarch Brown meat in 2 tablespoons shortening, molasses and 2 tablespoons soy sauce. When well browned, add celery, onions, 1 tablespoons soy sauce and the liquid from the bean sprouts and mushrooms. Simmer 20 minutes, covered. Add bean sprouts and mushrooms. Moisten cornstarch with cold water and add to mixture and stir until thickened. Serve hot on rice. RICE: Start 1 cup rice in 2 cups water to which 1 teaspoon salt has been added. Cover and cook until it steams, then reduce heat as low as possible and cook 14 minutes without stirring. Remove cover and stir immediately. |
