SAINT NICHOLAS COOKIES 
1 c. brown sugar
3 tbsp. milk
3 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. cloves
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 tsp. ginger
3/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/8 tsp. baking powder
1/8 tsp. salt
1 1/4 c. butter
1/4 c. almonds

Combine brown sugar and milk. Set aside. Sift together flour, spices, baking powder and salt. Add butter and cut in with pastry blender until mixture resembles corn meal. Add milk mixture and almonds. Blend well. Chill overnight.

Shape into rolls and slice 1/8 inch thick. Cut with sharp knife. Bake on lightly greased baking sheet at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. Cool on rack. Makes about 80 cookies.
