DATE LOAF 
3 1/2 c. sugar
1 c. milk
1 c. dates, chopped
2 tsp. vanilla
2 c. pecans
1/2 stick butter

Put sugar, milk and dates in pot and cook until mixture reaches soft ball stage. Remove from heat. To this add pecans and butter. Dampen napkins, cloth. I use a cotton dish cloth, not terry cloth. Put mixture in napkins and roll into a loaf. When loaf cools, slice it.
