DATE AND NUT LOAF 
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. dates (cut)
1 c. boiling water
3/4 c. brown sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. oil
1 egg
1/2 c. chopped walnuts
1 1/2 c. flour

Sprinkle soda over cut dates. Pour boiling water over both. Combine sugar, salt, oil and egg. Add nuts, date mixture, and sifted flour. Turn into greased pan and bake in slow oven (300 degrees) one hour.
