DATE LOAF 
3 c. granulated sugar
1 c. evaporated milk
1/2 lb. dates
1 tbsp. butter
2 c. pecans

Bring sugar and milk to a boil. Add butter then dates. Cook until a soft ball is formed when dropped in cold water. Remove from fire, beat and add pecans. Pour into cold wet towel which has been wrung out and shape into a loaf loaf. Slice into 24 candies.
