BISCUITS SUPREME 
2 c. flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
2 tsp. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
2/3 c. milk

Sift together first 5 ingredients; cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add milk all at once; stir only until dough follows fork around bowl. Turn out onto lightly floured surface. Knead gently 1/2 minute. Pat or roll out to 1/2 inch thick; cut with biscuit cutter. Bake on ungreased baking sheet at 450 degrees, 10-12 minutes.

Makes 16 biscuits.
