GOOD DILL PICKLES 
1 head dill
2 cloves garlic
1/4 tsp. alum
Dill
12 c. cold water
2 c. vinegar
1 SCANT c. salt (I use less)

In bottom of a quart jar, place 1 head dill, garlic and alum. Add cucumbers, top with another head of dill. Boil remaining ingredients and pour over cucumbers in jar. Seal (I water bath them). This liquid won't quite make 8 quarts.
