GRANDMA'S CAKIES 
1 1/2 c. sugar
3/4 c. butter
3 eggs, beaten
1/2 c. sour cream (1/2 c. sweet milk, 1 tbsp. vinegar)
1 tsp. baking soda
4 c. flour, or more
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
Pinch of salt

Mix baking soda and sour cream. Let stand for 10 minutes, until puffy. Cream butter. Add to sour cream mixture, salt and vanilla. Add flour, 1 cup at a time. Add 2 tablespoons more flour if dough is sticky. Wrap and chill 3 hours.

Divide dough into 3 parts. Wrap and refrigerate the other two parts. Mix 1/2 cup flour and 1/4 cup sugar. Sprinkle some on work surface. Roll dough out on lightly floured board to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut with 3-inch cutter.

Bake at 375°F for 15 to 20 minutes.
