CHEWY OATMEAL COOKIES 
1 cup raisins
3/4 cup shortening
3 eggs
2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
2 cups rolled oats
1 cup pecans
1 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cloves

Preheat oven to 400°F.

Simmer 1 cup raisins and 1 cup water over low heat until raisins are plump. Drain liquid into measuring cup. Add enough water to make 1/2 cup.

Cream shortening, sugar, add eggs, vanilla, stir in raisin liquid. Sift dry ingredients together. Add oats, raisins and pecans.

Drop by rounded teaspoonful onto a greased baking sheet.

Bake for 8 to 10 minutes.
