SCALLOPED POTATOES & BEEF STEAK
CASSEROLE
 
1 lb. round steak, 1" thick
Flour
3 tbsp. shortening
3 tbsp. flour
1 tsp. salt
3 sm. onions, sliced thinly
1/4 tsp. pepper
Dash thyme, garlic salt
2 c. water
4 med. potatoes, pared & sliced thin
Salt & pepper

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cut meat into 1" cubes. Coat with flour. Brown meat in melted shortening. Add onion and stir until onion is tender. Pour mixture into ungreased 2 quart casserole and sprinkle top with 3 tablespoons flour, 1 teaspoon salt, pepper, thyme and garlic salt. Next pour 2 cups water over it. Cover and bake 1 hour or until the meat is tender. Turn oven to 450 degrees and put potatoes over meat. Sprinkle top with salt and pepper. Bake, uncovered for 30 minutes or until potatoes are tender.
