SOPAPILLAS | |
1/2 pkg. dry yeast 1/2 c. warm water 1 egg 1/2 c. milk 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder (1 for each cup of flour) 1/4 c. sugar 1/2 tsp. salt 2 1/2 c. flour Powdered sugar (if desired) In large bowl, add yeast to water and dissolve. Add egg, milk and sugar. Mix until mixture starts to form. Add flour, salt and baking powder a little at a time; mix to thick dough. Let sit for 15 minutes. Put dough on floured board and roll very thin. Cut in 2 inch squares or triangles. Fry in hot oil until brown. When done roll sopapilla in powdered sugar (if desired). They are great serve with chocolate syrup or honey. Yields approximately 60-80 sopapillas. Can put part of dough in refrigerator for a couple of days, if all isn't needed at one time. |
