APPLE OR CHERRY STRUDEL | |
3 c. flour 1 tbsp. sugar 1 tsp. salt 2/3 c. crumbled corn flakes (if using frosted flakes, omit sugar) 1 c. shortening or lard 1 egg yolk and enough milk to make 2/3 c. 5 or 6 fresh apples, peeled and sliced (you can substitute large can of pie filling, cherry and apricot are good) Cut in shortening like pie dough. Divide dough in half and roll out to fill jelly roll pan. On top of this put crumbled corn flakes. Add apples or pie filling. Sprinkle with 3/4 cup sugar and 1 tablespoon cinnamon if apples are used. Roll out remaining dough and place on top. Brush egg whites on top layer and bake 40 minutes at 400 degrees. ICING: 1 c. powdered sugar 1 tbsp. lemon juice Mix until smooth. |
