OYSTER STEW 
1 qt. or 1 pt. oysters, as sm. as you can find
1 qt. or 1 pt. milk
1 qt. or 1 pt. half and half
1/8 lb. butter
2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. pepper

Use equal quantity of first three ingredients. Heat the milk and half and half in a large kettle. Do not boil. Float several slices of butter in the milk. When they melt, start to prepare the oysters.

Melt several slices of butter in the frying pan on low heat. Cover the bottom of pan with oysters. Keep turning the oysters until they become individual. Dump the oysters from the frying pan into the heated milk. Add salt and pepper. May add more salt and pepper to taste.
