RED VELVET CAKE 
1/2 c. butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
2 oz. red food coloring
2 rounded tsp. cocoa
1 tsp. salt
2 1/2 c. flour, sifted (sift flour and measure, sift flour 4 times)
1 c. sour cream or buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vinegar

Thoroughly cream butter and sugar, beat eggs until frothy. Add salt to eggs. Add eggs to butter and sugar. Combine food coloring, cocoa and vanilla. Mix, and add sour cream. Add mixture to sugar, butter and eggs. Add flour, small amount at a time. Combine soda with vinegar. Add to batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes.
