WHISKEY CAKE 
1 1/2 c. raisins
1/2 c. shortening
3/4 c. sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 c. sifted all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. allspice
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. chopped walnuts
2 tbsp. bourbon whiskey

Cover raisins with 2 cups water and simmer, uncovered, 20 minutes. Drain, reserve 3/4 cup liquid. Cool.

Cream shortening and sugar together, then beat in egg. Sift together flour, soda, spices, and salt. Blend into creamed mixture alternately with raisin liquid. Stir in raisins, chopped nuts, and whiskey.

Pour into 2 greased 9 inch layer cake pans Bake in preheated oven at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Cool and frost with bourbon hard sauce frosting.
