FRIED GREEN TOMATOES | |
3 or 4 lg. firm green tomatoes 1 egg 1/2 c. milk 1/2 c. cornmeal 1/4 c. flour Shortening Wash and slice tomatoes about 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick. Beat egg and milk in bowl. In another bowl, combine flour and meal. Dip each slice in the milk mixture, and then in the flour mixture. Have shortening about 1/2 inch deep in heavy skillet. When hot, place tomatoes in to fry, until brown on both sides. Salt and pepper. |
