GRANDMOTHER ZADIE'S BISCUIT
BREAD

This recipe is from my husband's grandmother, Zadie McGuire in Birmingham, Alabama. She made this delicious biscuit bread every day for her family. My husband can remember standing by the kitchen counter watching her making this.

2 cups self-rising flour
4 tbsp. (1/2 stick) cold butter
1 1/4 cups cold buttermilk
2 tbsp. bacon drippings

Pour flour into large mixing bowl. Cut in the cold butter until mixed in well. Pour in cold buttermilk and gather up and mix together until wet. Pour into bacon greased biscuit pan. Pat down with floured spatula.

Bake at 400°F until browned.

Am so hoping this is the recipe my grandma used. She had 12 children and made bread daily. It was always one large piece - not cut out as biscuits. Each person - simply broke off a piece.
Am going to break this down to smaller version and try this. Thank you so much for submitting. I am going to copy several of your recipes listed. Can hardly wait to try each one. Please - continue to add more. Your family must LOVE your food. Thanks again.
