BLACK MIDNIGHT CAKE 
2 1/4 c. flour
1 2/3 c. sugar
2/3 c. cocoa
1 1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1 1/4 c. water
3/4 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix all ingredients in bowl and bake in 13 x 9-inch pan for 45 minutes in 350°F oven; layers, 30 to 35 minutes.

Icing:

1 c. milk
5 tbsp. flour
1/2 c. soft butter
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Combine in saucepan the milk and flour and cook until thick. Refrigerate. Beat butter, shortening, sugar and vanilla until creamy. Add mixtures together and beat for 10 minutes.
