1 c. soft shortening
2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
1/2 c. sour milk or buttermilk
3 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
4 c. cut up gum drops

Mix all ingredients. Chill at least 1 hour. Drop rounded teaspoon about 2 inches apart on lightly greased cookie sheets. Bake until set, or until when touched lightly with finger there is almost no imprint remaining.

Bake at 400 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Makes 6 dozen.
