6 c. hot water
1 pkg. (16 oz.) dried split peas
1/2 lb. bacon, diced
1 c. chopped celery
1/2 c. sliced carrots
1/2 c. chopped onion
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. basil
3-4 hot dogs, sliced (optional)

In large microwaveable bowl (4-6 quarts) combine all ingredients, except hot dogs. Cover and cook on high power 8-9 minutes. Stir. Set power to medium and cook for 45-50 minutes.
