ORANGE AND DATE BARS 
1 c. dates, cut in pieces
1/2 c. sugar with 2 tbsp. flour
3/4 c. water

Cook until thick. Add 1 cup candy orange slices, cut thin, to date mixture and let cool. 1 c. brown sugar 2 eggs 2 c. flour 1 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt 2 tbsp. hot milk 1 tsp. vanilla

Cream together, then add 1/2 cup chopped nuts. Spread half mixture into a 9 x 13 inch greased pan and put in freeze long enough to set. Spread date mixture evenly over batter in pan, then spread other half of batter evenly over date mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes.
