CRISP BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
Thin sliced cucumbers
8 white onions, sliced
1/2 c. pickling salt
5 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
1 tsp. celery seed
2 tsp. mustard seed
5 c. cider vinegar

Mix cucumbers and onions with salt and 2 quarts cracked ice and let stand covered with weighted lid for 2 hours. Drain thoroughly and put in large kettle. Add sugar, spices and vinegar and bring almost to a boil stirring often with wooden spoon but do not let boil. Pack in hot jars and seal.
