BUTTERMILK CHOCOLATE CAKE 
1 c. butter
2 1/4 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. cocoa
2 c. buttermilk
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
3 c. cake flour

Cream together butter and sugar. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition; add vanilla. Sift together cocoa, flour, baking soda and salt. Add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Bake in 3 (9") cake pans. Bake 25 to 30 minutes at 350 degrees.
