APPLESAUCE CAKE 
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg, beaten
1 c. sliced cooked prunes
1 c. raisins
1 1/2 c. applesauce
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. chopped nuts

Cream shortening and sugar. Add egg and beat, then applesauce and dry ingredients which have been sifted together, alternately. Fold in fruit and nuts. Bake in well greased 9 x 2 1/2 x 13 inch pan 1 hour at 350 degrees.

CARAMEL ICING:

1 c. brown sugar, packed
1/4 c. milk
3 tbsp. Crisco
3 tbsp. butter

Bring all ingredients to a full rolling boil and pour over 1 1/2 cup powdered sugar. Beat to proper consistency.
