1 box devil's food cake mix (not pudding mix)

Mix as directed on box. Grease 2 jelly roll pans. Divide batter, half into each pan. Bake 12 minutes at 350 degrees.

FILLING:

5 tbsp. flour
1 c. milk
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. butter
1 tsp. vanilla

Blend flour, salt, and milk. Heat until thickened. Cool thoroughly. Cream shortening, sugar, and butter at high speed, gradually adding cooled mixture and vanilla. Whip 7-8 minutes at high speed, then put filling on one pan of bars and put other pan on top.

FROSTING:

3/4 c. sugar
3 tbsp. milk
3 tbsp. butter

Boil 3 minutes, then add 1/4 cup chocolate chips. Beat until chips are melted. Spread on bars.
