APPLESAUCE BREAD 
1 pkg. yeast
1 qt. lukewarm water
6 tbsp. shortening
1 tbsp. salt
4 tbsp. date sugar or honey
2 c. applesauce
Whole wheat flour

Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water. Add shortening, salt, sugar, applesauce, and enough flour to make an easily handled dough. Knead thoroughly, keeping dough soft. Cover and set in warm place to rise for about 2 hours.

When double in bulk, mold into loaves and place in well greased pans; cover and let rise again about 1 hour or until light. Bake in moderate oven (400 degrees) about 1 hour. Yield: 4 loaves.
