CHARLOTTE'S SUGAR COOKIES 
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 tsp. salt
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
3 1/2 c. all-purpose flour

Mix shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Stir in sifted dry ingredients. Chill dough several hours. Roll out small portions on lightly floured board to 1/8-inch. Cut with floured cookie cutters.

Bake at 375°F for 8 to 10 minutes until light browned. Cool on racks.

Makes 5 to 6 dozen cookies.

Icing: Mix powdered sugar and milk to desired thickness, not as thick as for cake. Add food coloring if desired.
