"MAMA - MAE'S OATMEAL COOKIES" 
1 c. white sugar
1 c. light brown sugar
1 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 beaten eggs
3 full cups (old fashion) oatmeal
1 c. chopped pecans
1 c. raisins (opt.)

Cream sugars and shortening together. Add beaten eggs and vanilla and stir well. Add dry ingredients and stir well. Add oatmeal and pecans, shape into 2 oblong rolls or logs and wrap inside wax paper. Chill at least 6 hours (overnight is better). Cut into slices on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes (freezes well).
