BUTTER COOKIES 
1 c. butter
3 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour

Cream butter until smooth. Add sugar and vanilla and beat well. Slowly add flour. Roll dough into 1 inch balls and put on ungreased cookie sheets. Put a thumb print in the middle of each ball to make a "well" in cookie. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes, depending on your oven. Cool and fill "well" with frosting.

FROSTING:

1/2 c. powdered sugar
1 tbsp. cream (maybe more)
1/2 tsp. vanilla
Food colors, if desired)

Mix powdered sugar with cream (start with 1 tablespoon) and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla to moisten. Add food colors if desired. You may also use canned frosting. Fill the "wells".
