BOLOGNA SANDWICH
Buy some ham or bologna (one pack) and some bread (one loaf) and buy a little jar of mustard. Then you make yourself a bologna sandwich. Put the bread down on the table, put the bologna on it. Spread the mustard on the bologna. Put another piece of bread on the bologna, then eat it with some milk. Then clean up.

Sunbeam white bread - two slices, dukes mayo, apply to both sides of bread, southern home grown tomato-slice place on one side and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Add a slice of Oscar Meyer. Close sandwich and serve with a pickle and lays potato chips. Best sandwich ever. Now that is a Bologna Sandwich!

I'm ashamed now that I recently chastised my 85 year old mom for buying bologna. I've learned from posters on this recipe that there is a vast variety of "real" bologna that I'm unfamiliar with. Frankly, there are three edibles that incite my gag reflex. Two of them are prepackaged bologna and Miracle Whip, so I'm gravitating towards posts that skirt these
ingredients. I might just venture into the pb, chips and jelly combos!
Meanwhile, regarding the heads-up about removing the red "rind" from the bologna before consuming, I'm convinced that that is "white trash" fiber and is part of a balanced diet.
P.S. I almost forgot to mention the "batter-whipped" soft bread. No, it doesn't make me gag, but my only experience with it was in the college cafeteria where after you chewed and swallowed a bite of your sandwich, you had to scrape the bread from the roof of your mouth before continuing. (Plus remove the goo from under your fingernail.)
Sigh. Memories.

Growing up as a child, this was all we can afford for lunches. This simple sandwich makes me think of elementary school. I love this recipe. My mom would also make weeniequitos. Taquitos with hotdog and cheese deep fried and served with ketchup! Did it with Bologna. Too. So good!!!!

For a low carb alternative, wrap the bologna and mustard in lettuce leaves. Skip the bread! BTW, I cannot believe I have read all of these reviews, but I am amazed at the variations of the "simple" bologna sandwich.

We have a fun and yummy twist. Take a slice of bologna place on top of a cinnamon roll and enjoy with a glass of chocolate milk. Makes a great lunch while on road trips.

I stumbled upon this last week... Tortilla Wrap, Pimento Cheese, Hot Banana Peppers Pickled in Vinegar, Bologna or (Any Meat)! I cant get enough! The hotness of the peppers and the collision of the cheese with the bologna is 2 damn good!

Hooah. Just ran across this recipe. Thanks! I'll pass this along. There are a couple of families that have an annual bologna sandwich lunch. That's it nothing else, just what you have in your recipe. Now we have instructions.

 Lynn Owens (Virginia) says:
Use fresh loaf bread, put mayo on both slices, bologna and crunch up a few ruffle potato chips and sprinkle on bologna, then place other slice of bread. (We use to place whole chips on the bologna, top with bread slice and then crunch down the sandwich with our fist to make tater chips get all mixed in and flatten sandwich at same time.)

Try this one: Slice of bologna on two slices of bread with hot Pueblo CO green chili and a slice of cheese. Bologna sandwich doesn't get any better!

Very FUNNY...Wow??, I must say, I thought I was the only one to eat the bologna with mustard, who knew. One other thing you should always do is cut off the crusts because there is no nutritional value in them, and, run a toothpick thru the sandwich with an olive, makes the whole bolonga sandwich deal look more healthy.

This is an excellent recipe that I think would be perfect for the food network Iron Chef competition. I will submit this to them as a suggestion for future shows.

Thanks again for this wonderful, often forgotten retro recipe.

Can't wait to try it for my family this weekend although I think I will fry the bologna and then add then deglaze the pan to scrape up those great tasty brown bits and then add them to my sandwich with american cheese....YUM!

My Dad fried the bologna till really brown. Then put mayo on white bread, added bologna and topped with pickled banana peppers. Put a little of the pepper juice on, too. My family loves this. Thanks for the laughs. It's good to know there are still people who don't take everything seriously.

I must say at first I thought the sandwich was just a cute joke for lack of a better recipe then I started reading some of the comments and got some great ideas from them. I did visit a friend one 4th of July and he had a whole log of bologna on the grill adding BBQ sauce as it roasted. the flavor was amazing.
