MEAT LOAF IN AN ONION 
6 lg. onions
1 egg, beaten
1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
1/4 c. finely crushed saltines (about 7 crackers)
1/2 tsp. dry mustard
1 lb. lean ground beef

Remove skins from onions, halve onions horizontally. Carefully hollow out each onion half, leaving 1/4 inch shell.

Combine egg, 1/4 cup tomato sauce, crackers, mustard, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/8 teaspoon pepper. Stir in meat. Spoon mixture into bottom halves of onions; replace onion tops. Wrap each onion in heavy duty foil.

Cook directly on medium coals for 30-40 minutes, turning several times. OR place wrapped onions in baking dish; bake in 375 degree oven for 1 to 1 1/4 hours.
