CHERRY SURPRIZE COOKIES 
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. cocoa
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. EACH baking soda & powder
1/2 c. butter, softened
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 bottle (10 oz.) maraschino cherries
1 pkg. (6 oz.) semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 c. sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated)

Sift flour, cocoa, salt, baking powder and soda into a large bowl; set aside. In mixing bowl, cream sugar and butter until fluffy and light. Add egg and vanilla; mix well. Gradually add sifted dry ingredients to creamed mixture. Blend well. Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Press centers down with thumb. Drain cherries; save juice. Place 1 cherry in center of each cookie.

In a small pan, combine chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk. Heat until chocolate is melted. Stir in 4 teaspoons cherry juice. Spoon about 1 teaspoon frosting over each cherry, spreading to cover cherry completely. If too thick, add more cherry juice. Bake frosted cookies in 350 degree oven for 10 minutes. Cool on wire rack.
