IRISH SODA BREAD | |
WHITE FLOUR VERSION: 3 1/4 c. white flour 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. sugar 2 tsp. baking soda 1 c. buttermilk 1/2 - 3/4 c. raisins (optional) WHOLE WHEAT VERSION: 1/2 c. sifted white flour 1 1/2 c. whole wheat flour 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. sugar 1 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar 3/4 c. buttermilk 1/2 - 3/4 c. raisins (optional) Mix all ingredients together until well mixed and shape into ball. Put in greased 1 3/4 quart corning ware casserole. Cut a wide cross in top of dough and bake at 350 degrees for 50-60 minutes. Very good and SUPER easy. No raising necessary. |
