ORANGE WALNUT DATE BARS 
1 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/3 c. soft butter (not melted
3/4 c. light brown sugar

Sift flour, soda, salt and nutmeg in bowl and set aside. Put butter (not runny or whipped) in large bowl of electric mixer. Add brown sugar. Beat until light and fluffy. 1 tbsp. grated orange rind 2 tbsp. orange juice 1/3 c. pitted dates, chopped 3/4 c. walnuts, chopped

Beat in above ingredients in butter and sugar mixture. Beat in flour mixture blending until smooth. Stir in dates and walnuts. Spread evenly into 11 x 7 x 1 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes.

ORANGE BUTTER FROSTING:

1/4 c. butter, beat until fluffy
1 tsp. grated orange rind
1 egg yolk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 c. confectioners sugar, sifted
2 tsp. orange juice

Cream together above ingredients. Beat until well blended. Gradually add confectioners sugar, beating well. Beat in orange juice (enough to make frosting of spreading consistency). Store in freezer or refrigerator until needed.
