CINNAMON COFFEE CAKE 
3 c. sifted flour
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. butter
2 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tbsp. hot water
1 c. buttermilk
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1 tbsp. sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon

Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in large mixing bowl. Add butter. Cut in with a pastry blender until mixture has a crumb like texture. Remove 1/2 cup and set aside. Add eggs to remaining flour mixture (one at a time) blending well after each addition.

Dissolve soda in hot water, then stir in buttermilk. Stir buttermilk into flour mixture. Mix until smooth. Pour 1/3 batter into a greased 9 inch tubepan and spread evenly over bottom of pan. Add nuts, 1 tablespoon sugar and cinnamon to reserved flour mixture.

Sprinkle 1/3 over bottom. Repeat twice with remaining batter and filling ending with filling. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 to 50 minutes. Glaze with powdered sugar or icing if desired.

Icing: 1 cup powdered sugar, a little vanilla and milk.
