APPLE STRUEDEL 
3 to 6 apples, pared and cored
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. baking powder
1/2 c. sugar
1/3 c. shortening
1 egg
1/3 c. milk
Cinnamon
1 c. sugar
1 c. water
3 tbsp. butter

Measure and sift 2 cups flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 3 tablespoons baking powder. Add shortening and knead like pie dough. Combine egg and milk and add to flour mixture. Lay on floured board and shape into a rectangle 1/4 inch thick. Put apple slices on dough, leaving 1/2 inch rim. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Cut in half. Fit into buttered dish. Meanwhile, simmer 1 cup sugar, 1 cup water, and 3 tablespoons butter for 5 minutes. Pour over top of apple-dough mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.
